Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated as Iranian officials warn that any future conflict may surpass previous confrontations in duration and complexity. Mohammad Akraminia, a spokesperson for the Iranian army, highlighted that Tehran would control its response to any U.S. military actions, suggesting a prolonged and potentially expansive conflict.
The Iranian Defence Minister, Mehrdad Akhlaghi, reinforced this stance by asserting that any aggression against Iran would prompt a proportionate and decisive reaction. He emphasized that Iran would not cede control over the scale, timing, or consequences of its defense strategies to its adversaries.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also cautioned that hostilities with the U.S. could extend beyond localized skirmishes, potentially impacting a broader geographical area. Despite these warnings, diplomatic efforts remain underway. Iranian negotiators are engaged in talks with Qatari mediators in Doha, aiming to resolve the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that discussions continue, focusing on a proposed two-day initiative, though no final agreement has been reached. Araghchi stressed Tehran’s readiness to pursue both diplomatic solutions and defensive measures.
The backdrop to these developments includes concerns about the potential resumption of hostilities following the November 3 U.S. midterm elections. While President Donald Trump has indicated that no new attacks on Iran are planned before the vote, he has left open the possibility of further military actions afterwards, despite noting that negotiations with Tehran have been constructive.
