Amid a backdrop of global conflicts and crises, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is calling for renewed vigor in the relationship between Türkiye and the United States. Speaking at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, Erdoğan emphasized the necessity of closer dialogue and cooperation between the two NATO allies, particularly in addressing international issues, notably in the Middle East.
Erdoğan outlined several avenues for potential collaboration, suggesting that the two countries could enhance their cooperation in sectors such as nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry. He stressed the importance of removing barriers and expanding opportunities for joint defense production, illustrating Türkiye’s growing capability in this field. According to Erdoğan, Türkiye’s annual defense exports have surged from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion, positioning the nation to become one of the world’s top ten defense exporters.
Furthermore, Erdoğan encouraged American investors to explore opportunities in Türkiye, highlighting the country’s foreign investment potential and the introduction of a new competitive incentive framework aimed at attracting investment. This initiative is part of Ankara’s broader strategy to boost economic ties and foster collaborative ventures across various industries.
US Senator Chris Coons also addressed the gathering, underscoring the enduring partnership between the United States and Türkiye. He pointed to the role of business and entrepreneurship as crucial elements in reinforcing bilateral relations, aligning with Erdoğan’s vision of deepening economic and diplomatic engagement.
The event, which marked a century of diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations, brought together high-ranking officials and business leaders from both Türkiye and the United States.
