Amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting global energy markets, U.S. President Donald Trump has urged the international community to implement “complete economic isolation” against Iran. Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Trump emphasized that coordinated international action could help stabilize energy prices and increase pressure on Tehran.
Trump’s address at the UN highlighted the U.S.’s firm stance on Iran, defending recent military strikes and reiterating that Iran must never develop a nuclear weapon. He indicated that further military actions could be on the table if diplomatic solutions remain elusive. “I call on all nations to help to enforce the complete economic isolation of Iran,” Trump stated, linking Iran’s actions to the rising energy costs worldwide.
Beyond the focus on Iran, Trump also addressed the burgeoning field of artificial intelligence. He dismissed calls for increased regulation, describing AI as a transformative technology potentially akin in scale to the Industrial Revolution and denounced concerns over its risks as a “hoax.”
Trump also announced plans to establish two new U.S. military bases in Greenland, in collaboration with Denmark. He suggested that these bases would bolster the defense capabilities of both the American continent and Europe.
The President’s speech also touched on the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, expressing optimism about nearing a settlement. He noted that the conflict continues to exert upward pressure on energy prices, further exacerbated by tensions and disruptions around the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz.
